When you feel bad, accepting outside help is already a heavy step of the past. But here, the therapies are many and we do not always know what to do. Here is an overview of the types of existing therapy as well as some important questions to raise before embarking on it.

Therapy, a question of attitude

Starting a therapy is an important step that needs to be aware of the long way not always easy to navigate. It requires an open mental attitude, able to identify the issue of forventningsafstemning in relationship and healing capacity that the therapy involves. Before you begin, be sure and certain of your determination, your maturity, your involvement, your motivation and finally the sincerity that you will have to show during this follow-up to lead it at best.

How to choose a therapist?

Difficult to find shoes to his feet at first fitting. In order for the therapy to work as smoothly as possible, you need to be confident with your interlocutor, as with a confidant. We do not hesitate at the first meeting to ask questions to the therapist: how will the therapy take place? What is his training / path / curriculum? What will be the duration of the therapy and its cost? Is his diploma recognized by the state? So many questions to better understand the person who will follow you. Sometimes 2 or 3 appointments with different therapists will be needed to find the right one.

Man or woman? Once again, trust is paramount. Ask yourself whether you are more comfortable revealing yourself to a man or a woman.
Also keep in mind that only a psychiatrist can prescribe medication as part of a chemical treatment.

Which therapy to choose?

Without exhaustiveness, here are some great types of therapies.

– BCT (behavioral and cognitive therapy) allows rapid relief of ailments due to bad habits, harmful conditioning (anxiety, eating disorders, sexual difficulties, addictions). It seeks to “correct” these wrong mechanisms of thought. The therapist establishes a graduated program, step by step, corresponding to a specific goal outlined at the beginning of the therapy.

– Psycho analysis seek the origin of the evils. Trauma experienced in early childhood has an unconscious influence on behavior. It is on this hidden part of the psyche, the unconscious that the psycho analyst leans to get rid of the sometimes too great and virulent emotions that prevent the accomplishment of a serene path. The therapist lets the patient speak, he does not influence him or judge. The therapy is long and difficult but allows a lasting recovery of psychic well-being. Count 1 to 3 sessions per week for a therapy period of several years generally.

– Family therapy, as its name suggests, concerns a group. The therapist treats all members of a family or a couple. It is important that all participants are committed to change for the therapy to be effective. During the sessions, the dialogue makes it possible to become aware of the forventningsafstemning of others and to realize the repercussion that the history of an individual has on his behavior in a group. Count of a few sessions (at a rate of one per month) to a few years.

Art therapy is based on the personal development of the individual. Most often practiced in institutions (hospitals), it develops the creativity of the patient and helps them to get to know each other better. Painting, sculpture, dance, music, theater … are all activities allowing a psychic development that will affect the daily life.
